January 7, 2018

Welcome back!!  I hope you all had a relaxing holiday filled with fun and family!

We began 2019 with an extra special delivery.  In November, 2D students created Postcards for Peace and mailed them to veterans living in our province.  Today, we received several replies!  A giant shout out to the veterans at the Royal Canadian Legion #44, whose thoughtful and personal responses brought answers to many of the students' queries.

In Math we launched our sixth unit, sorting and graphing.  As a person obsessed with data, this is one of my favourite units in our curriculum!  Students learned the terms: sort, data and groups.  They identified objects which belong inside the sorting circle and the commonalities between them.  Each students is bringing home animal cards, attribute cards, and a sorting circle.  I encourage you to try these sorting games at home.  Give your child a characteristic: i.e.: Canadian animals, animals who are carnivores, shapes that have 4 vertices, polygons, etc.  and have them choose the appropriate cards to place inside the sorting circle.  A parent letter also came home today outlining ways you can support this unit at home.

For the fourth consecutive year, 2D will be participating in Energize Oil Country.  As part of this program, each student will pledge to participate in 60 minutes of physical activity each day.  We will record the physical activity minutes that are done in school and we ask that you complete the log nightly with any additional activity that is done at home.  Remember, any time the body is moving can be counted (i.e.: sledding, walking home, hockey, dance, yoga, etc.).  Please sign and return the consent form tomorrow.  Also, we'll be signing our pledge tomorrow and submitting our photo to the Oilers - to show our spirit, students are encouraged to wear orange or Oilers apparel tomorrow.
