Today was Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs day!!  It was a fun and rewarding culmination to our month long non-fiction writing unit.  In the morning, student authors took their published masterpieces to Mrs. Waters' class, where they read to the Kinders.  Then in the afternoon, we enjoyed a movie and wrap up party celebration!

All students in the school participated in the Spell-A-Thon wrap up assembly.  It was amazing to hear that $13 754 had been raised school-wide!  Thank you to all parents and students for supporting this initiative!

Have a great Spring Break and a special Easter!

Reminder:
-School resumes on April 3
-Over the spring break, help your child to find a poem that they love.  Practice performing it, as they will be presenting on April 3.
- Family dance is tonight from 6-8pm.  Remember your loonies for the cake walk!

We rocked our cray, funky, colourful, mismatched socks today to raise awareness for Down Syndrome.  We learned all about Chromosomes and what happens when someone is born with an extra chromosome 21.  There is a great video HERE that we enjoyed in class; it brought out great discussions and I was proud of the thoughtful contributions of 2D students.

In the afternoon, we worked hard on Daily 5 and Art.  Wow, the day flew by!!

We reviewed the concept of natural resources today.  Students were able to identify multiple natural resources with ease - caribou, cloudberries, arctic char, seals and arctic cotton are just a few.

In Art, students began creating their covers for the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball stories that they have been writing.  The stories are currently with the publisher and students are anxiously awaiting the delivery of the first draft on Monday.

Students complete a basic fact review daily, however, over the next week we will be doing an intense focus on addition to 18.  Students are encouraged to review their basic facts daily at home also, in an attempt to obtain rote recall of these facts.

There are many fun ways to practive spelling words.  I have sent home an email with some ideas and links.  Here are two of my favourites:  http://www.momto2poshlildivas.com/2012/10/75-fun-ways-to-practice-and-learn.html https://thisreadingmama.com/hands-on-spelling-activities/.  Today we used rainbow printing to practice the tricky words from the spelling lists.

In Gym, students are working on floor hockey shooting and passing skills.

We love library!  Thank you to Mrs. Caudron who always finds the best stories to read to us!!

Today your child is bringing home a copy of their Spell-A-Thon pre-test.  This assessment will show your child the words that he/she does not already know how to spell and will help to focus their studies over the next two weeks.  The Spell-A-Thon test will be on March 14.  Thank you in advance for your fundraising efforts!
