Summer Info From RBES

We hope you have a great summer and we look forward to seeing everyone again in September!  You will receive an email from your child’s new teacher in August.

The first day of school is on Tuesday, September 4.  This will be a full day. Please call the school if your child is going to be absent that first morning. This is very important as we juggle changes in our registration numbers on that first day.

School supply information can be found on our website at http://rbes.blackgold.ca/parents/school-supplies/   You can order packages throughout the summer, however, there is an additional charge of $5 afterAugust 1, 2018.

Additional Summer and September Information can be found on our website on our home page.

During the summer, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Principal, Mrs. Kloschinsky, by email: kathy.kloschinsky@blackgold.ca.

Thank You!

Parents, thank you for: volunteering, donating materials, sending party snacks, helping in the classroom, supporting your child's learning at home and coming to meetings!  Thank you for sharing your child with me this year, it was a joy to have been part of their educational journey.

Have a wonderful summer, 2D students, and all the best over the next 10 years of school!  I can't wait to see you in the hallways, chat during recess and watch as you grow and continue being amazing.

We had a BLAST at Miquelon Lake learning about animal homes, the food chain and insects/spiders.  Thank you to the outstanding parents volunteers, Mrs. McNirney, Mrs. Marrelli & Ms. Oikle, who helped facilitate many of the sessions and ensured all of the students had a great time.  We appreciate you!

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day.  We acknowledged this special day by having a special guest, Mrs. Fouillard, lead our morning assembly. We also had the privilege of joining a round dance, lead by the incredibly talented students from Ben Calf Robe School in Edmonton.

We also celebrated the accomplishments of our track athletes today.  Congratulations again to all students who participated.

Reminder to parents that tomorrow is our field trip.  Please check your child's agenda and your email for important information.

Today in Science, students classified bugs as either helpful or harmful.

Students have been hard at work creating their realistic fiction.  I encourage them to continue using the strategies they are working on to write stories at home over the summer.

How much do you know about the history of Devon?  We learned so many interesting facts today.  Ask your child what was the name of the first family to build a home in town, or what year Devon was incorporated as a village.  You can learn more and see photos online on the Town of Devon website!

Students created their own insects today.  Can you imagine if these insects were to exist: Avenger, Buggy, Otumhead, or Hearty - some of them look pretty ferocious, while others are positively beautiful!

The end of the year is only 10 days away!  This morning we took year end photos.  Wow, have your little ones changed!

Today was our final day of Kimochi's day.  Some of the lessons we learned from the characters:
Bug - Be brave when you try new things.
Cloud - Remember to control your emotions.
Cat - It's ok to be mad, it's not ok to be mean.
Huggtopus - It's ok to be silly when it's fun for everyone.
Lovey Dove - Keep the peace.

In Math, students completed a bar graph that represented the data they collected about favorite ice cream kinds yesterday.  Data collection and interpretation is a passion of mine and I love watching as the students learn about it.

Did you know that spiders are not insects?  Today students learned the parts of an insect (head, thorax, abdomen, antennae and 6 legs) and what makes them different from spiders (number of body parts, legs and eyes).

Students are hard at work working through the brainstorming process to create their realistic fiction.  It was entertaining to read all of the potential problems that the characters in the stories may encounter.

We ended our day by collecting data from our classmates about favourite types of ice cream.

We are in the process of wrapping up our subtraction to 100 unit.  This week students will be reviewing subtraction (with and without regrouping) in preparation for the unit exam on Thursday.  Reminder to parents that reviewing basic facts nightly at home with your child (oral, online or written) will help to strengthen this essential skill.

In Science we learned the parts of a spider.  Spiders have a cephalothorax, an abdomen, palps, 8 legs, 8 eyes and a spinnerette!

In the afternoon, students had the pleasure of attending the Grade 4 Drama Troupe dress rehearsal of Hansel & Gretel.

Today was the track meet!  We had a blast outside, racing, throwing and jumping.  Thankfully, the weather was perfect for the event.  THANK You

Thank you to Mrs. Mullen for welcoming the non-track students into your classroom and making the day of learning a lot of fun!!
