Responses from the North Pole arrived in the mail today!!  Students were overjoyed to read their letters from the Elves of the North Pole.  Santa was a little busy and unable to reply, but lucky some of his elves had a little spare time to write to each student.

We enjoyed sitting around our fancy table and having a family style brunch.  Thank you to the parents who provided this tasty treat!

In the afternoon, students enjoyed watching a movie on the big screen in the gym with Mrs. Kloschinsky and Mr. Coffin.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable holiday!  See you all in 2018.

Students have completed their special top secret gifts and will be bringing them home today to place under the Christmas tree.

It was nice to be back to our normal routines today!

At the end of each social studies unit, students will create a piece of art that represents the landscape of the community we studied, then at the end of the year, they will combine all three projects into one masterpiece.  Today students created a beautiful lighthouse drawing that will represent Meteghan in their 3 Canadian Community art display.

We had Chromebook access today, where students learned about the Live Mathletics area of the website.  This is a place that they can practice their basic facts by playing against classmates, people in the school, or other students from around the world.  You can also use Mathletics at home!!

Daily 5 is a favourite in 2D.  Students enjoy engaging with literature and making words.  They are looking forward to learning the last two rotations after the Christmas break.

Students completed their top secret gifts and are excited to wrap them tomorrow and bring them home to place under the tree until Christmas morning.

We had a great time at our NAX Buddies hockey game today.  Thank you again to the NAX program for providing the busing for this excursion.
Students had a great time cheering for their buddies, eating popcorn!  But the best part was the pride we felt when giving our giant donation to the Madden DeLuca Foundation.  Our donation included: 41 sleepers, 11 hats, 16 books, 22 pairs of socks, 3 blankets and 5 pairs of mittens!  WOW!   The joy of giving radiated today.

Meteghan day took place this afternoon.  Students worked through three activities related to the learning we have been doing about Meteghan.  Students created clay lighthouses, a magnetic fishing game and tried 3 different foods from the east coast.

Today was a concert-a-palooza!

We Elfed-Ourselves in art!  Check out these adorable little elves!!  They will be on display at the concert next week.

We walked through a couple rehearsals of our Christmas Concert.  It's coming along nicely.  Please be sure your child continues to rehearse their concert song at home.

Little Drummer Boy
Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum

Our new born King to see,
Pa rum pum pum pum

Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum

To lay before the King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby
Pa rum pum pum pum

I am a poor boy too,
Pa rum pum pum pum

I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum pum

That's fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum

Shall I play for you
Pa rum pum pum
On my drum.

Mary nodded
Pa rum pum pum pum

The ox and lamb kept time
Pa rum pum pum pum

I played my drum for Him

We are hard at work completing our Meteghan unit in Social studies.  Today we talked about jobs that the residents of Meteghan may have.

We also reviewed counting by 2, 5 and 10s forward and backwards!

Reminders:
- Comfy couch tickets are on sale!  Purchase yours now for a chance to have the best seat in the house for our concert!
- Today is the final day to complete the Powerschool permission form for our trip on Friday.
- We are still collecting baby donations for the Madden DeLuca Foundation.

We had an extra tasty day today!  In the morning, the new RBES smoothie cart was in our room.  Students sampled avocado, then created a smoothie with: orange juice, cranberry juice, yogurt, banana, mixed berries, avocado and spinach.  The feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive!  We can't wait for our next smoothie cart day!

In the afternoon, we had Tasty Tuesday.  Students created yummy Grinch Santas.  The most fun part was drawing the faces with melted chocolate.  Thank you to Mrs. McNirney for providing the ingredients for today's treat.

December 11, 2017

Our NAX buddies were here today.  They helped the Grade 2 buddies to use Destiny to choose a Christmas book from the library.  Then the buddies worked together to write letters to Santa, we placed the letters in the mail and are hoping that they make it to the North Pole in time to receive a response from Santa!

In Social, students learned the term, natural resource, and discussed natural resources that are found in the community of Metehgan.  Ask your child how many natural resources they can name.

In Math, we continued our review of skip counting. Students should be able to count to 100 by 1, 2, 5 and 10.  This is a great skill to practice while driving around or during supper!

Reminder:
- We are still collecting baby sleeper, blanket, sock, toque and book donations for the Madden DeLuca Foundation.
- Field trip permission for the NAX hockey game must be completed in Powerschool by the 13th.
- Payment for the Canadian Cultural Days is available on Powerschool.

December 8, 2017

Congratulations to Hailey, who was the 2D Student of the Week!

I was away at a meeting today.  Unfortunately, there were some technical difficulties with Spelling City and only some students were able to complete their spelling tests.  This week's test has been omitted.

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday 5 December 2017

December 5, 2017

Today our silly little elf, North was sitting beside the red door that leads to Santa's Workshop. He looks very comfortable on top of the bulletin board ledge.

In Math, we reviewed counting by 10s.  Students should be able to count by 10s starting at any number (i.e.: 10, 20, 30 40 or 36, 46, 56, 55).  Students made groups of 10 with the goal of organizing 100 items.  We played a game where students could not talk, but had to arrange themselves based on the number card they were given.  They worked amazingly well as a team to correctly order their cards.

We learned about Father Jean-Mandé Sigogne, a famous Nova Scotian. In his 45 years in the Meteghan region, he helped build nine churches, founded schools and secured major land grants for the Acadian people.

Reminders:
- There are several permission forms on Powerschool to be completed
- Tomorrow is Early Dismissal
- Thursday is the final day for Devon Christmas Elf donations

Monday 4 December 2017

December 4, 2017

Our class elf, North arrived today.  He brought us elf workbooks and an advent calendar.  We can't wait to see all of the adventures he will go on during his month in 2D.

Students were very excited to launch their third Daily 5 activity today, Word Work.  In our class, there are 7 different Word Work activities that students can choose from.  Over the next two days, we will be working through the 7 activities in order to become familiar with each one.  Word Work is an opportunity for students to review their Word Wall Words (rainbow words) in a fun and interactive way.
