We also completed our Witch Feet, which are on display outside of our classroom.

It is hard to believe, because it is only two days before Halloween, but we completed our Christmas Card art today!  The school is doing a fundraiser where you can purchase packages of cards featuring your child's artwork and I am excited to share their creations with you during Parent Teacher Meetings.  

Reminder: 
-Tomorrow is our Halloween Celebration.  Students are asked to come to school dressed in their costumes, as we will be going straight to the Halloween Parade at 8:35.  We will have our class party in the morning and will be taking off our costumes at lunch.  In the afternoon, we are excited to attend the Drummer presentation. 
-Photo orders are due October 30.

Today had a special farewell assembly for a loved member of the RBES family.  In September Mrs. Becker took a new position at the Graminia School and we miss her terribly!  All the best on your new adventure Mrs. Becker; we will miss your stories!!

In Art, we began our Witch Leg project.  We look forward to completing the painting portion be tomorrow.

Math was fun, as we talked about skip counting using coins!  pennies - 1s, nickels - 5s and dimes - 10s.  Students challenged their partner to make the correct amount of change using skip counting.  (46cents - 10, 20, 30, 40, 45, 46 or 38cents - 10, 20, 25, 30, 35, 36, 37, 38)  This is a fun activity that can be done at home by using change from your piggy banks.

In Science, we learned the term surface tension.  Students completed an experiment where they challenged themselves to see who could add the most drops of water to a penny.  The highest number of drops was 62 - way to go Emma!!

Congratulations to Nathan, who as the 2B Student of the Week!


In science, we learned the term, viscosity (or thickness of a liquid).  We completed a racing liquids experiment to see which of our four liquids (molasses, dish soap, cooking oil and corn syrup) was most viscous. It did not take long to realize that the molasses was by far the most viscous liquid and that the cooking oil was the least viscous.

Science is so much fun!  Today we explored four mystery liquids.  Students analyzed each liquid's colour, smell, feel, as well as whether it poured and if it was transparent or opaque.  They used the results of this exploration to predict what each liquid was. 


In Math, students played Make 10 Horserace.  This is a twist on a classroom favourite.

This morning we boarded a bus and headed into the city to see The Steadfast Tin Soldier at the Artsbarn.  The students thoroughly enjoyed the story and performance!  


In the afternoon we played a game of Roll for 10.

We have been working hard to learn how to complete Words Their Way Word Sorts over the past two weeks.  This week, students are sorting words based on their short vowel.

What an exciting day in 2B today; students participated in their first science experiment today!  Students explored the liquid, water, by working through various centers.

In Math, we began our basic fact focus on Making 10.  This is a tricky concept and one that will require reinforcement both at school and home.  Take a look at the Basic Fact Game - Make 10 On My Head.

Reminder:  If you have not yet completed the online permission form for our field trip on Wednesday, please ensure it is completed this evening.  Also, online hot lunch orders are due on Wednesday.

Congratulations to Ava, who was the 2B Student of the Week!  

Today we began our Liquids unit in Science.  I am excited for a fun two weeks of liquid exploration!  Things are going to get wet and gooey in here!!

Thank you to all of the 2B students who returned their home reading bags. Reminder that students should be reading at home for a minimum of 15 minutes every evening.  Becoming a voracious reader will help students to strengthen their reading skills, including accuracy and comprehension!

Today students reviewed +/-0, +/-1 and +/-2 basic facts by playing Whack-A-Number.  
Reminder: All Basic Fact games can be viewed under the Basic Fact Tab.


In Math, we continued our exploration of the numbers 1-100.  Students completed an activity called Scoot, where they had to identify many missing numbers on a number line. 


During Social, students read about the daily life in Saskatoon, Meteghan and Iqaluit.  They chose their favourite community and wrote/illustrated about two actives they would do if they were to visit that community.  


Reminders: 
- All outstanding permission forms are due into the office.
- All outstanding STUP books are due into the office.
- Online permission forms for the Arts Barn field trip must be completed at your earliest convenience.
- Tomorrow is "Time Warp Day".  Students are encouraged to dress in clothing from their favourite time period.

Today we began our review unit of the first 5 basic fact concepts: +/-0, +/-1 & +/-2.  These are all concepts that students can review at home nightly.  Basic fact sheets are available online, also there are many games we have learned that students can play with just a dice or deck of cards.

This week is our first week of Words their Way and also Word Wall Words.  For the month of October, all of these concepts will be taught and reviewed in class.  Beginning in November, students will also be bringing Words their Way home to practice during the week.  

In Gym, we explored different types of locomotion.  Also, Mr. Larson taught us a fun new game called Spy Tag.

Due to schedule changes, our library class will now be on Thursdays.  Please ensure your child returns his/her books tomorrow so that he/she can choose new books!

Today we wrapped up our unit on patterning.  Students are now experts at creating both repeating and growing patterns, identifying pattern core and solving word problems based on patterns. 

Reminders:  
-There is no school on October 12 & 13.  
-School photos are on October 14.  
-The online Field Trip permission must be completed by October 21.

I will be away on Thursday and Friday this week, Mrs. Forchuk will be the sub in the classroom in my absence.  I wish all 2B families a Happy Thanksgiving!

This week, the focus of our basic fact lessons is +/- 2.  Students played a new game today called Connect 5, where they attempted to solve 5 correct equations in a row.

Today was our first library class with Mrs. Webb.  Students were overjoyed to be read to the new librarian!

Today was our first day of Home Reading!  Students are bringing home their grey canvas home reading bags, 5 books and the home reading log.  All of these items are due back on Friday morning. All of the details about home reading are available inside the first page of the log.  Please take time to review the document and email if you have any questions. 

Tomorrow is library, please be sure your child returns his/her books so that they can take out new books from Mrs. Webb tomorrow.

Congratulations to Esha who was the 2B student of the week!

Today in Math, we continued to explore more complex increasing patterns.  Students created some very creative patterns using unified cubes and then transformed that same pattern rule into patterns using shapes, letters and numbers!  

In Phys. Ed. students learned how to play modified kickball.  It was a blast!!  

If you have not already sent your child's paint shirt, please do so on Monday.  Also, if your child is struggling with his/her tie up shoes, they have come home this weekend, so they can practice.

Today Mrs. Gordon came to the school and taught students about Bus Safety.  We learned about the danger zone, the proper way to sit on the bus and how to exit the bus if there is an emergency.  I think we are set for our big bus ride to Edmonton in 20 days!!
