Today the Grade Ones began their Jump Math unit - Sorting and Attributes. In this unit, students will learn about attributes and apply their learning
to data management, geometry, patterns, and measurement. They will
sort objects into groups based on the objects’ attributes and learn how
sorting can help them be organized in real-life situations. Students will
apply attributes to geometry by recognizing that circles are curved the
same everywhere and that circles can have different colours, sizes, and
designs. They will also apply sorting skills to geometry when they sort
circles by colour. Students will apply attributes to patterns by asking what
is the same and what is different, and use attributes in measurement by
comparing sizes.
