Home Reading

Our goal throughout the year is for each student to become a voracious reader, who is eager to pick up and get lost in a book.  Your child is encouraged to read books from their home reading bag, the school library, the public library, your personal library, a friend's library - any books!

Reading at home will make a substantial difference in your child’s school success. I hope that this program will encourage your child, if he/she is not already, to make reading part of his/her everyday routine. A great way to become a better reader is to practice lots! I encourage students to read for 15 minutes per night, 5 times a week.  Please initial the monthly calendar in your child’s agenda on the days your child has read for 15 minutes. This can include your child reading a book to you, to a sibling, or to another adult.

Students will be bringing home their reading bag on Monday and it is due back on Friday.  All books coming home will be at your child’s “just right” reading level.  Reading books from their appropriate level helps students to build confidence and helps them grow as readers. If your child chooses to read “just right” books from home, this is great too. The most important thing is that your child is developing a love of reading and becoming a voracious reader.
