Today Mrs. Gordon came to the school and taught students about Bus Safety. We learned about the danger zone, the proper way to sit on the bus and how to exit the bus if there is an emergency. I think we are set for our big bus ride to Edmonton in 20 days!!

WOW! We have reached the end of our first month of school!
This morning students had an assembly with Mr. Larson, students learned about the importance of being kind, even when the situation is challenging.
In Math, students played Domino Add'em Up using dominos to solve addition plus one equations. This is a game that can be played at home using a piece of paper, pencil and set of dominos. Grab the materials and ask your child to teach it to you tonight!
Congratulations to our friend, Ty, who participated in the Cross Country Championship today in Wetaskiwin.

Today was our first Tasty Tuesday of the year! Students learned how to read a recipe and also the terms: title, ingredients & directions. We sliced apples, then dipped them into caramel and sprinkles! It was a crunchy, juicy, gooey & colourful experience! All of the Tasty Tuesday recipes, photos and reviews will be complied into a recipe book that your child will bring home at the end of the school year.
In Phys. Ed. Mr. Larson has spent the past two days working with students on ball handling skills. Ask your child to show you the figure 8 leg pass at home or the triple clap ball catch!
In Social Studies, students learned about the bodies of water that are near each of the four communities we are studying. The hardest body of water is the Atlantic ocean along the Meteghan shoreline!
In library we read a story, Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen. This concept has been the focus in 2B over the past two days. We have spent an extensive amount of time discussing the importance of being an active listener. 2B students are working on the listening with both their ears and eyes.

PThis morning was our first assembly of the year. Congratulations to Emma, who was the first Students of the Week for 2B!
The focus of our day was Terry Fox. Students completed activities about this Canadian Hero and also participated in the Terry Fox Walk/Run through the trails of Devon. It was a fun day and I am proud to announce the 2B raised $44!

Today in Social Studies, we looked at the land in each of our four communities.
Devon - along a river, many trees
Meteghan - rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, forests
Saskatoon - rolling hills, few trees, good soil
Iqaluit - no trees, rocky, permanently frozen ground

During Daily 5 time, students have shown great progress in their Read to Self stamina! Over the past two days, we began working on our second of five Daily 5 activities - Read to Someone. "Of all the choices children participate in, Read to Someone is often their favorite. Reading with someone helps readers, especially developing readers, increase areas of comprehension, accuracy, fluency and prosidy. It also increases reading involvement, attention and collaboration. What's more, children love partner reading and readily participate with books of their choosing." (www.thedailycafe.com)
In Social Studies, we talked about the climate in each of the 4 communities we are studying. Students chose which type of clothing they would pack in their suitcases as we planned a "trip" to each of the locations. After our bags were packed, we hopped onto an "airplane", a "bus" and a "car" to travel to each location. It took us 11 hours to get to Meteghan by airplane, bus and car. It took 8 hours to get to Iqaluit by plane. Our shortest trip was a 1 hour airplane ride to Saskatoon. What fun adventures!
