Today students began creating Travel Brochures in Social Studies. Each student chose one community and will spend the next three days researching and creating a brochure that will showcase the community in an attempt to convince travellers to visit their Canadian community.
Reminder that tonight is the RBES Celebration of the Masters. Stop by the school between 3:30-6:00 to view the art created last week. If you are unable to attend, there are images below that you can view.

Today the 5Cats Art Studio is at RBES teaching the Grade 2s how to create a Picasso inspired masterpiece. Thank you to 2A and 2C who kindly allowed our students to join them today! A giant THANK YOU to the parents who volunteered today.
Students complete some fabulous shape poems today. One will become part of a secret gift that they have been working on and the others were brought home to share with you.

HATS ON! FOR MENTAL HEALTH!
"It is estimated that 15 per cent of Canadian children and youth are living with some form of mental illness, and one in five young people will deal with a mental health issue at some point in any given year. Unfortunately, studies show that less than 10 per cent of those affected young people will get help for problems related to mental health, drugs or alcohol. Often, it is the stigma associated with mental illness that prevents people from accessing the treatment they desperately need. Many people with mental illness say the stigma that surrounds mental illness is harder to live with than the disease itself.
Since 2009, the Alberta Teachers’ Association has partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association and Global Television in raising awareness of children’s mental health and discouraging the stigmatization often associated with mental illness. On May 4, 2011, schools across Alberta are invited to participate in Hats On! For Mental Health, a coordinated awareness day focused on raising awareness of issues related to mental health."

IT'S EDUCATION WEEK! Thank you to the Education Week coordinators for organizing all of the fabulous activities this week!
Today we launched the week's activities with a Zumba lesson!
In Social Studies, we talked about the environmental concerns in each community that we are studying. Then students created posters encouraging others to "Save Our Environment". Ask your child out 5 things you can do to help our planet.
