Today we talked about permanent changes that occur when we heat objects.  In the morning we examined uncooked potatoes and compared them to cooked potatoes.  The consensus was that the cooked potatoes were much tastier!  We also conducted an experiment called "Meltdown" where we competed to see who could melt an ice cube the fastest.

Tomorrow is our last day of skating.  Students are permitted to bring hockey sticks (and a cage) if they wish to play shinny.

I was delighted to be out on the ice with 2B today!!  A giant shout out to all of the parents who have come to the arena daily to tie skates, skate and cheer on the 2B students!  Without you, this amazing physical education opportunity would not be possible.

In Science today we talked about ways that we can be safe around hot and cold objects.  I encourage you to ask your child to share their safety tips with you and see if you can brainstorm any new ideas.  Also, I hope you have been working on your Hot Chocolate Storage Containers, this culminating project is due next Monday.  I am excited to see and test all of the unique containers.

Today we also compiled our Oilers Energize Challenge #3 video.  You can view it HERE.

Today we used non-human units of measure in Math.  Although it is not quite as much fun as people, we still managed to enjoy the class!

In the afternoon, students were treated to The Early Bloomer starring Maisy Daisy and Principal Gardener.

Today we launched our unit on Hot and Cold temperatures.  Students sorted a variety of images into hot/warm and cold/cool.  2MT students are excited for the start of this unit, and to begin the many experiments that are incorporated into this unit.

In Math, students learned the term, non-standard measure.  We talked about the many units that we could use to measure things around our school.  After much deliberation, we decided the best way to measure the hallway was with 2B students.  It took a total of 40 2B students to stretch from the south end of the hallway to the north end.  Also, we measured the classroom and we now know that it is 8.5 Sophie's across.  Math is fun!!
