Thanks Congratulations to Keaton, who was the 1-2E Student of the Week!
This morning, we had the pleasure of watching Jurassic Bark, a drama presentation about a paleontologist at Dinosaur Provincial Park, with many curricular connections.
In addition, we also played Indigenous Games in Gym. Thank you to Mr. Larson for leading us in this fun experience!
The 1-2E May Newsletter has been posted to the class website.

Today we read the story, Only One You, by Linda Kranz. We then created unique painted fish, just like the ones in the story! We can't wait to see our fish swimming among the rest of the school's fish. Stay tuned for more photos of this school wide art project.
In Math, we began using drawing as a method to check our subtraction to 100 equations. There is a sample of your child's work in his/her agenda today.
Thank you to the parents who have sent recycling into the classroom for science next week. Please keep it coming! The more supplies we have, the better!!

Spring in Alberta is incredibly unpredictable! Students love to play outside no matter what the weather, please ensure your child brings clothes for all seasons - rain boots, splash pants, gloves, toques, jackets, etc. But most importantly, please send extra socks with your child, it is hard to focus and learn when your socks are soggy.
The Grade 2s flew to Saskatoon today for their final community study of the year. They are excited to have made three trips this year and have a passport full of stamps! For the next three weeks, we will be spending time in Saskatoon and learning about this prairie city.
Weekly Reminders:
- Monday 5pm - Parent Council Meeting
- Wednesday 7pm - PreK/Kinder Meeting
- We are now collecting building materials, please see your email.

Congratulations to Brodie, who was the 1-2E Student of the Week!
Our little superheroes were looking particularly adorable today!
In honour of Earth Day tomorrow, we created Newspaper Earth art. We also read a story about keeping our Earth clean. I encouraged students to do something to help the Earth tomorrow, through reducing, reusing or recycling.

Today in Gym, we got our hearts pumping by doing a lot of skipping. We had skipping ropes, jump bands, the skip it and hula hoops.
Our basic fact strategy focus for the next two weeks will be doubles +1. Today we learned a game, Double the little one, add one, that can be played at home using just a deck of cards. Check out the video on our Basic Fact Page.
We have completed our addition to 100 unit and we are now moving onto subtraction. This unit will be taught in the same format as the addition unit. We will use a variety of methods to solve equations, including: manipulatives, the algorithm method, drawing and the open number line (Grade 2).
Reminder that tomorrow is Super Hero Day. Your child is welcome to dress up in their favourite Super Hero costume/clothing.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a delightful Easter weekend!
In Gym, we used our hitting skills to play golf-baseball. Both teams were amazing hitters and it was a tight battle to the end!
What amazing Hot Chocolate Storage Containers!! The Grade 2s tested their insulators today and I was impressed at how well they all retained heat. Congratulations to Brooklyn, whose insulator lost only 23.8C over the two hour test period.

It is wonderful to be back! I had a fantastic time at the uLead conference over the past four days learning from experts in the field of Educational Leadership.
Today each student named their Basil Person. We were excited to see that most of our people have started to sprout "hair"!
For the past week, students have been participating in Drum Fit during Gym. This is a fun and musical movement activity and brings smiles and laughter to our class!
Have a Happy Easter and a safe and enjoyable extra long weekend.

Today the Grade 1s visited the John Walter Museum in Edmonton, where they learned about the past. It was a half day flashback in time! Thank you to Mrs. Wagner and Mr. Tatchell, who joined our class on the trip.
The Grade 2s had an all day Science experience. We talked about hot and cold temperature, discussed ways to heat and cool homes, read thermometers, melted ice, tried out a blubber glove, created a permanent change to a potato by adding heat, blew up a balloon using a pop bottle and created safety posters. We also learned the terms: thermometer, insulator, and conductor. It was a fun-filled day of learning.

Today we planted our Basil People. This project is part of the Grade 1 science curriculum, but will be used in conjunction with an online photo diary, to enhance the Grade 1&2 ICT objectives.
Students wrote a second Small Moments story today. I was proud of the way they incorporated extra details into their writing today and also carefully reviewed for capitalization and punctuation. Way to go 1-2E authors!
Reminder that the Grade 1s will be going to the John Walter Museum tomorrow. An email was sent out with important reminders for the field trip.

Gym this week is a tricky one! Students are working on striking, catching and tracking skills using a ball and their hands (think volleyball basics).
In Language Arts, we began a new writing technique. Students will focus on writing fiction using small moments. We are using a three step process:
1. Generate an idea
2. Plan (touch and tell, share, sketch)
3. Write!
Ask your child to share their story idea with you.

There are two exciting Easter contests happening in the library. The fist is a candy guess. Students placed their guesses today during library. Mrs. Raugust provided us with a hint: it was greater than 300, but less than 500. The second contest is a colouring contest, students are bringing home their colouring sheets today, they can be returned at any time.

Welcome back! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break! Students wrote about their week off and it sounds as though you were all very busy!
The Grade 1s spent today reviewing addition to 100, while the Grade 2s learned how to use an open-numberline to solve addition to 100 equations. Ask your child to show you this unique way to solve the addition equation 39+68=?.
This week, students have word sort and rainbow word assessments on Friday. The Grade 1s also have two field trips (Thursday - all day, Friday - PM), if you have not yet completed the online permission forms, please do so today. Also, all students are asked to bring in a clear 2L pop bottle for Wednesday. Wednesday is also early dismissal day.
